This 5m x 5m pent log cabin is a modern style pent roof design. All of Hortons log cabins can have a pent style roof. Even if they are only shown with an apex roof in the photos and description for no extra cost. Pent roof log cabins give the very popular contemporary feel to a log cabin. But they generally require EPDM rubber roofing to make them water tight due to the very low roof pitch. This roof style ensures your garden log cabin will look forever timeless and is a fantastic choice for any garden. The 2 tall windows that come with this garden room as standard makes it stand out from the crowd . Making it a great feature building for your garden, This as well as being a lovely space to be inside.
Despite modern opinions calling a pent roof more contemporary, pent roofs probably originated centuries ago. Simply because of their simplistic construction method. Just one straight roof line is essentially as simple as it gets. Pent roofs can also be known as flat roofs. Although not truly flat so they throw the rain water off in one direction, usually the rear of the cabin. This doesn't have to be the case with Hortons pent roof cabins. We can make the roof slope in whichever direction you choose. Another descriptive phrase for this roof style is "mono-pitch roof", for obvious reasons. There is only 1 large roof area, all in the same plane.
Are there advantages to a pent roof cabin?
Roof drainage
Apex roofs have 2 sides and nearly always have a steeper slope (otherwise known as "roof pitch") than pent sheds. Thus the rain water runs off the roof of an apex roof quicker than it does on a pent shed. The gentler slope on pent sheds won’t necessarily cause any issues. As long as it has the correct roofing material, ie EPDM rubber roofing. EPDM is 1 large sheet of rubber without joins or seams. This ensures a leak-free roof for years to come. The gentler roof pitch means that a barrage of rain won't inundate your guttering. Apex roofs can shoot water off the roof and overflow guttering or even shoot straight over the top of it!
Head room - apex cabins compared with pent roof cabins
The pent roof generally has a more even internal headroom throughout the whole area. Whereas an apex roof may have more head height in the middle directly under the ridge line. They tend to come down lower at the eaves walls. Consequently, a pent roof cabin can accommodate taller items. Such as shelving, cupboards or even a shower at the lower points of the roof. Our pent roof cabins are generally 2.5m high at the tallest point (to be within planning rules restrictions). The standard lower side height being 2.1m. But we offer a choice to increase this lower wall up to 2.4m high. Whist this doesn't sound like a great deal more (in cost, it isn't), it gives another 300mm headroom inside which makes a huge difference.
Space for a 5m x 5m pent log cabin
A 5m x 5m cabin is quite a large building. Apex roof cabins are a bit more tricky in certain cases to fit into restricted spaces as they have 2 eaves wall roof overhangs. If adjoining the rear wall of your garage, for instance, then the rain water may make the gap between the 2 buildings damp for most of the year. Which obviously isn't ideal for a timber building! A pent roof means that you can direct rain water away from any tight spots. It is also easier to collect the rainwater as you only need 1 run of guttering. Another possible benefit with a pent roof style cabin is that they are less obtrusive to your neighbours. If you intend to slot them into a spot close to a fence, there is no peak poking over the top of the fence.
All year Use
It is a fact that warm air rises. This means that an apex roof will always be warmer within the apex area of the ceiling, ie up above you head! A pent roof doesn't have a heat trap as it is generally speaking nearly flat. Therefore spreading the heat more evenly across the room. And as such will probably cost less to heat and there is no localised area of extreme heat that will leach out of the roof.
The look
The main factor that influences customers is their own personal stylistic preference. When adding tall windows, it looks like the most modern of garden building designs. This 5m x 5m pent log cabin fits right into that bracket. Of course it’s completely up to you which design you choose. But it is definitely worth not only thinking about how it looks but also what you will be using it for as well.
