Site visits and surveys

We are able to visit your home to view the proposed site for your new building, or carry out a garden building survey if you require repairs or maintenance.......

Site visits

Our customers can have peace of mind as we can carry out the following checks during a site visit -

  • The proposed garden building will fit into the space
  • We can check to see if an existing base is suitable
  • We will check the access to make sure the building can be delivered and carried through into your garden
  • We can discuss positions of doors and windows to ensure that the orientation and positions of them is best for you 

We do have to charge for this service - the price allows for up to 1 hour on site. We also have to charge for travelling time at £1.00 inc. VAT per mile there and back (payable in advance).

Garden cabin surveys

Hortons can make garden cabin surveys and make repairs as appropriate if required. Whether you just want a health check for your garden building or if there is something wrong with it, we can help.

Step 1 - Survey of your garden building

The first stage is to book your survey. You can do this by giving us a ring but we will still need you to send us some details by email so we know what to expect when we arrive. Therefore it may be wise to use the ready made survey request form on our sister website (UKlogcabins). 
We will then inspect your garden building. It doesn't matter what type of timber outbuilding you have, we can help you with any type of garden structure -

Our inspections covers all aspects of your garden building, so you can be sure that if there is anything amiss, then we will find it.

Step 2 - In depth survey report

Following on from our survey, we will then send you an in depth report. We will tell you what elements are in good condition where there is nothing of concern. Then there are amber elements, which are items that need to be monitored to make sure they don't get any worse, but these are urgent - similar to a car MOT, think of them as "advisories". Then there are the red items where action should be taken sooner rather than later.
 
Our survey also contains no obligation quotes or estimates for any amber or red items picked out in the report.

Step 3 - Understand the survey report and decide what repairs, if any, to do

Once you have received our report and any estimates or quotes contained within, you can choose what action to take. We will not pressure you into making a decision, it is entirely your choice. You can choose to have none, some or all of the work done. If you are not sure what some of the report means and therefore uncertain what to do, you can ring to chat about any of the parts of the survey or estimates. We can explain anything required and the ramifications of not doing a part of the work, for instance.

Step 4 - Action our garden cabin survey and repairs service

Once you have had time to digest the report so that you fully understand it and what needs to be done to keep on top of any maintenance or repairs required, you can let us know what you would like to do.
 
It may be that your garden building is in good condition and nothing requires urgent attention - marvellous! If, however, you decide to have some work done, then let us know so that we can book the works in.

Step 5 - Repair or maintenance works are undertaken and complete

Our installers will turn up knowing what work is required. It doesn't matter if it's a simple adjustment or much more complicated repair work, we will carry out the work in a professional and timely manner. Our survey will only inspect "visible" elements, it will not be invasive. Therefore, whilst our installers are working on your garden building, they may uncover things that were not visible that may require some attention. We will not "brush things under the carpet", in contrast we will immediately report this to you. We will explain what has been found and what the solutions are. It will then be your decision what course of action to take.

Step 6 - Your choice! Our annual garden cabin survey and repairs under control

You can choose not to do anything. Or you can book us in to make a future site visit to monitor any of the amber items, or indeed any of the red items that you chose not to have resolved. This could be for a few months times to see if the amber items  have got any worse or even in the form of an annual visit - this is not a contract or legally binding, but purely just a re-visit to help you to keep on top of the maintenance of your timber garden building.
 

Charges

Cabin surveys are a chargeable service as it not only involves the actual survey but also time to draw up your survey report and estimates for any works that may be required. The price is £200.00 inc. VAT plus travelling expense at £1.00 inc. VAT per mile one way from our showground at RH13 6NX (payable in advance).
